Course Description

A study of representative plays (comedies, histories, and tragedies) and selected poems designed to help students to a fundamental understanding of Shakespeare's artistry and achievement as well as an appreciation of his position in English literature.  Special attention will be given to the social and historical context of his works and to their universal appeal and continuing relevance.
